Ian and Anton

In 2004, during the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Sub-Saharan Africa, Ian Roberts becomes associated with a budding megachurch in North Carolina. As part of their building campaign, they include funds to build an AIDS hospice inside a Black township of South Africa. One Sunday, Ian returns home and sends an email, impulsively volunteering to travel to Africa to help start a business to create jobs and fund the operations of the Hospice. Being a world traveler, his philosophy of acceptance to people of all religions comes under attack by the clergy of his new church. Pastor Anton Nikosi and Ian Roberts enter a symbiotic relationship teaching all involved in this Post-Apartheid environment the meaning of love and respect. And for Ian Roberts, he gains a practical understanding and a deepened faith in God.

Loved it. As I turned the final page of Ian and Anton, I found myself profoundly moved. It is clear Robert Beckstedt has the talent to not only tell a story but to create a mirror for readers to reflect on their own beliefs and actions.

When I flipped through the pages of Ian and Anton, I wasn’t expecting it to capture my heart and attention so completely. Robert’s story telling shines with a rare combination of intellect and heart. Ian and Anton beautifully explores the nuances of faith in action, the courage it takes to confront societal norms, and the transformative power of love and understanding. This novel doesn’t just tell a story; it leaves a lasting impression on the soul. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.

As someone who loves reading novels, I must say that in Ian and Anton, you take readers on an unforgettable journey into the heart of South Africa and the complexities of human connection. The novels exploration of faith, morality, and personal transformation is compelling, making it an essential read for those who seek depth and meaning in fiction.

This novel, Ian and Anton, masterfully bridges the gap between personal conviction and communal responsibility. Robert’s ability to weave the larger-than-life themes of faith and cultural reconciliation into a deeply personal narrative is remarkable and honestly commendable. The poignant dialogue and vivid descriptions offer an intimate portrait of humanity’s shared struggles and aspirations. This book is both a call to action and a celebration of hope. Kodus to the author of this novel.

Looking Good

Impactful, culturally relevant and enjoyable fiction

I have loved all of Robert Beckstedt's books but by far, this is now my favorite. Well-written and memorable, it contains everything I love in a great read... curiosity, believability, compassion, suspicion, deceit, a noble cause, romance, heartbreak, and just the right touch of humour. Loved the protagonist and literally yelled "NOOOOooo" out loud at the deeds of the antagonist. I am hoping for a sequel.

An inspiring story of a mega church’s missionary work and a free spirit “Christ follower” treading with unknowable good intentions into the African Aids/HIV epidemic. Beckstedt intertwines the word of God with organized religion, international economics, politics, human frailties, and the realities of the harsh global business. A primer on being true to God and oneself. Hurting and healing and reassuring that “Sunday is Coming.”
